研究代表者について/ About Principal Investigator

学振やSPRING GXなど、他の研究費を受給している場合でも申請できますか？
Can I apply for the Challenge Fund even if I receive other research funds, such as JSPS Special Researcher (DC) or SPRING GX?

可能です。申請フォームにおいて、経済的支援の受給状況について尋ねる設問がありますので、そちらで受給している研究費についてお答えください。
You can. The application form asks about your research funding status, so please tell us about the research funds you are receiving there.


東京大学外国人留学生特別奨学制度（東大フェローシップ）を受給していますが、チャレンジファンドには申請できますか？
I am receiving The University of Tokyo Special Scholarship Program for International Students (The University of Tokyo Fellowship). Can I still apply for this grant?

申請者の経済的支援受給状況に関係なく、本制度への申請が可能です。
You can apply for the Challenge Fund regardless of what kind of scholarship you are receiving.


現在博士課程に在籍して4年目ですが、それでも申請は可能ですか？
I am a four-year doctoral student. Can I apply for the Challenge Fund?

標準修業年限を超えていても申請は可能です。ただし、休学中の助成金使用は認められません。
You can apply even if you did not complete the doctoral course within the ordinary study period. Please note that the grant is not allowed to be used during the Principal Investigator’s leave of absence.

研究倫理教育（eAPRIN）について / About Research Ethics Training (eAPRIN)

新領域創成科学研究科の学生がeAPRINを受講するにはどうしたらいいですか？また、申請するにはどのコースを受講する必要がありますか？
How can GSFS students take eAPRIN? Which course do I need to take before applying for this grant?

研究科の事務ポータルに受講の方法が記載されていますので、ご確認ください。チャレンジファンドの研究代表者・研究分担者になる方は、Aコース（A-1、A-2、A-3のいずれか）を受講するようにしてください。
Please visit this GSFS Office Portal Site for the procedure. Principal Investigators and Research Members must have taken Course A (either A-1, A-2, or A-3) before applying.


すでにeAPRINを受講していますが、チャレンジファンド申請前に再度受講する必要がありますか？
I have already taken the eAPRIN course. Should I take the course again before applying?

申請に必要なコースを受講済みの場合は、再度受講する必要はありません。受講した際に取得している修了証番号を申請フォームで入力してください。
If you have already taken the necessary course, you do not need to take it again. Please write your eAPRIN Course Completion Number when applying.


新領域創成科学研究科以外の学生がeAPRINを受講するにはどうしたらいいですか？
How can students other than GSFS take eAPRIN?

所属する研究科の事務に問い合わせてください。
Please ask the administrator of your graduate school for the procedure.

研究分担者について / About Research Member

複数人で申請する場合、研究代表者と研究分担者合わせて最大2人まででしょうか？
When applying in a group, is two the maximum number of people including the Principal Investigator and Research Member?

研究分担者は何人でも構いません。
You can have as many as Research Members.


複数人で申請する場合、研究代表者・研究分担者とも新領域所属である必要がありますか？
When applying in a group, should both Principal Investigator and Research Member(s) belong to GSFS? Who can be Research Member(s)?

研究代表者は本研究科の博士課程学生に限りますが、研究分担者は本学学生であれば所属部局は問いません。また、研究分担者は博士学生に限らず、修士学生、学部生、研究生でも構いません。
Principal Investigators must be GSFS doctoral students. Research Members must be students at the University of Tokyo, regardless of their department. Doctoral students, master’s students, undergraduates, and research students can be proposed as Research Members.


研究分担者は学生でなければいけませんか？本学の教職員は研究分担者になれますか？
Must Research Members be students? Can the faculty members and/or the staff be Research Members?

教職員を研究分担者として申請することはできません。本制度の趣旨は、学生間での協働を支援するということにあります。
Faculty members and staff cannot be proposed as Research Members. The purpose of this grant is to support collaborations among students.


研究代表者と同じ研究室の学生を研究分担者とすることはできますか？
Can I invite the students in my laboratory to be my Research Member(s)?

異なる研究室と連携することで新しい研究が生まれることを期待していますが、同じ研究室内で新領域の研究を行う可能性もあり得ると考えますので、同じ研究室のメンバー同士での申請を排除はしません。ただし、新しい分野を協働して開拓してほしいというのが本制度の趣旨ですので、それを十分に理解した上で申請してください。
It can be possible to conduct original research in new fields within the laboratory, so we do not exclude the application by the students in the same laboratory. Please note that the purpose of this grant is to encourage students to collaborate and develop new fields of research, and collaboration with different laboratories is highly encouraged.


複数人で申請する場合、申請内容等についてチャレンジファンドの事務局が研究分担者の指導教員に連絡することはありますか？
When applying in a group, do the Research Members’ supervisors receive any notifications about the application from the Challenge Fund Secretariat?

事務局がやりとりを行うのは研究代表者の指導教員です。本制度への申請を考えている場合は、研究代表者・研究分担者に関わらず、事前に自身の指導教員に相談してください。
The project secretariat will contact the Principal Investigators’ supervisors, not the ones of Research Members. If you are planning to apply for this grant as Principal Investigator or participate as Research Member, please talk with your supervisor in advance.

申請の方法について / About Application Procedure

複数人で申請する場合は、研究代表者・研究分担者がそれぞれ申請書類を書くのでしょうか？
When applying in a group, do both the Principal Investigator and the Research Member(s) need to write the application?

申請を行うのは研究代表者だけです。研究分担者がいる場合は、研究代表者が申請書類に研究分担者の情報を記載してください。
Only the Principal Investigators can apply. Principal Investigators write the information of Research Members in the application when applying as a group.


私ともう一人の学生とで申請することを検討しています。二つの異なる研究テーマを計画していますが、一方の研究テーマで私を研究代表者、もう一人を研究分担者として申請し、もう一方の研究テーマでは私を研究分担者、もう一人を研究代表者として申請したいのですが、このような申請の仕方は可能でしょうか？
I am planning to apply with another student. Can we apply for this grant twice with two different research projects; for one application I am the Principal Investigator, and another student participates as Research Member, and for the other application, we switch our roles?

同じ学生が複数の申請を行った場合、複数採択される可能性はありますか？
If a student submits multiple applications, is there a possibility of multiple applications being selected?

限られた期間に研究課題に専念する必要があるため、一人が研究代表者として複数の研究課題をこなすということは非常に難しいと考えます。
Since it is necessary to concentrate on research projects for a limited period of time, it is extremely difficult for one student to handle multiple research projects as a principal investigator.

助成金の使用について / About Grant Use

今年度採択された場合、採択される前に執行された経費をチャレンジファンドの助成金で振り替えることはできますか？
If adopted to this grant, can I transfer the expenses executed before being adopted to this grant?

採択された年度の4月1日以降の執行分に限り、振替を可能とします。前年度の執行分については認められません。
Transfers will only be accepted for executions after April 1 of the fiscal year in which you are approved. Transfers for the previous fiscal year will not be accepted.


公募要領の７．補助対象経費で「人件費・謝金：原則不可、必要な場合は研究計画に理由を記入すること」とありますが、人件費・謝金が原則不可なのはどうしてでしょうか？また、必要な場合とはどのようなケースを想定されていますか？
In the application guidelines, 7. Eligible Expenses, it is written as “Personnel expenses and honoraria: In principle, such expenses are not allowed, but, if necessary, indicate the reason in the research plan.” Why are these expenses generally not allowed? In what case are these expenses allowed?

この助成金で誰かを雇用して行うような大型の研究は想定していないため、原則不可としています。ただし、たくさんの人の協力を必要とする調査を行うなど、人の手を借りることを中心とした研究の場合は、申請の際に理由を記載してください。
We do not expect large-scale research that would hire someone with this grant. However, if your research project focuses on people, such as conducting surveys with many people, and needs these expenses, please state the reason in the application.


他からもらっている研究費とチャレンジファンドの助成金を合わせて使用することはできますか。例えば、WINGS からもらう 30 万円とチャレンジファンドの助成金30万円を合わせて60万円の計測機器を購入することを想定しています。
Can I use this grant with other research funds? For example, is it possible to buy a 600,000 yen machine by spending 300,000 yen from this grant and 300,000 yen from the research fund by the WINGS program?

研究費として使うにあたり、適切であると判断されるような説明ができなければいけません。チャレンジファンドの助成金と WINGS の研究費を合わせて物品を購入したい場合、それぞれの研究費から合わせて支出する理由について合理的な説明が求められますので、用途についてよく検討してください。
When you use research funds, you must be able to explain the appropriate reason. If you want to purchase something by combining this grant and WINGS research funds, you will be asked for a rational explanation as to why you are spending together from each fund. Please think carefully about the use of this grant in advance.

研究成果について / About Research Result

採択後、プロジェクトが終了する際に成果報告書の提出が求められていますが、ある程度堅実な成果が得られることを想定して申請書を書くべきでしょうか？
After the project is selected, the principal investigator is required to submit an achievement report when the project is completed. Should we write the application assuming some solid results?

一般に、研究費申請の際には成果をある程度想定しますが、本助成に関しては、成果報告までに当初狙った成果に至らなくても、うまくいかなかった考察等も含めて報告することで、資金の目的を果たしたと評価します。申請する際には、できそうなところまでしか書かない、というこじんまりとした内容にするのではなく、チャレンジ精神を大切にしてほしいと思います。
When applying for research funding, you generally expect some results. However, for this grant, even if you do not achieve the results you initially aimed for by the time you report the achievement, we will evaluate that you have fulfilled the purpose of the funding by providing a report that includes a discussion of why the research did not go well. When applying for the grant, please do not be so modest as to write only as much as you think you can do, but rather value the spirit of challenge.

申請回数について / About Number of Applying

一度申請して採択された場合、翌年度に再度申請することは可能ですか？
If adopted this year, can I apply for this grant again next year?

可能です。ただし、前に採択された研究内容との関連について明記してください。
That is possible, but you must specify the relationship with the previously adopted research project.
